Lose the Thumb Kid

How do you make a kid stop sucking their thumb? We are envisioning large dental bills in our future. Her poor teeth are already bucking. John can't stand all the sucking but secretly I think its cute. I guess I should get on her case more because it won't be cute when she has braces. Any advice?

Sorry I can't personally be any help on this subject...my kiddos have never been thumb suckers. But..my girlfriend back home put bandaids every morning on her daughter's thumbs and it took about a week she said before she got out of the habit of wanting to suck her thumb during the day. The mom would take the bandaids off at night and that was the only time she could suck her thumb and have her blankie which I guess was the main source of her wanting to suck her thumb (comfort thing). Did the dentist actually tell Logann she needed to stop? Sometimes when it comes from someone other than mom or dad, they take it more to heart. Good luck!!! :) In all my years of teaching, I have never seen a kindergartener suck their thumb! So they do eventually quit! :)
